Mission

The purpose of this blog will be to spread the sound of recordings which are out of print, old as the hills or otherwise dead in some way, perhaps via the non-digital media on which it is stored. I'd like to take advantage of the possibilities presented by the internet to spread great music for free which otherwise would never be heard by...YOU. If you, however, are the custodian of the audio which I upload, and wish me to take it down please let me know. Conversely, if you would like higher quality files and have significant reason, also let me know and I'll surely see what I can do.

The Ukraine Team/Trash Can Make Us Better
a split cassette released by the Fuck Me Stupid Mountain Princess Recording Collective

What the hell do I say (or even know) about this thing? I know not a thing of The Ukraine Team, and only what the notes say about TCMUB, which I have improperly read (for years until today) and mis-tagged as "Trash Cans Make Us Better". Tough luck. Jeremy Kennedy plays guitar and sings and I don't know who First Meat might be. I can see from the FMSMPRC's myspace that "the Ukraine Team plays strange, funny, lo-fi rock; while trashcan...delivers noise punk in the key of frustrated teenager." I was going to say [for TCMUB] something utterly convoluted like lo-fi progressive emo (definitely in the key of frustrated teen), if something like that exists or can. It's really good. I love lines like "I'm not yours, but I'm yours if you wanna fight," from a song about forming a relationship with a younger stalker...I think. It kind of reminds me of the less popular songs of early Nirvana and parts of Incesticide, with some nice K influence and a penchant for guitar feedback. As for The Ukraine Team, they're certainly lo-fi, their guitar turned up to fuzz and feedback, every sound loaded with treble, bass sucked out. The vocals hide behind amp distortion, and overall the songs ring of The Moldy Peaches with less overt (and less outrageous) humor. I'd say that if the disjointed blend of Beat Happening, The Butthole Surfers, Nirvana and lo-fi punk appeal to you, you'll like this.  I really get into the Trash Can Make Us Better side.
